Dental Crowns
& Bridges.

Dental crowns and bridges are important and common restorative techniques used to fix a damaged or missing tooth that Dr. Barkhodari can take care of right in our well-appointed dental office on Union Street.

Why You Might Need a Crown

Also known as a “cap”, this type of restoration will restore the function of a severely damaged too. Dr. Barkhodari may prescribe a crown if the tooth has very large fillings, damaged or fractured fillings, or is seriously injured.

What is a Bridge?

A dental bridge is a dental technique used to replace one or more missing teeth by permanently attaching the new tooth or teeth to the natural one next to it. Replacing missing teeth will make it easier to speak and chew, as well as improve your appearance and increase your confidence. It is important that a missing tooth be replaced as soon as possible as teeth need their neighbors as support so if one is missing, it can create issues such as the surrounding teeth shifting inwards, the bite changing due to a response in the pressure, and eventually issues with the jaw. Therefore it’s important to take action as soon as possible.

Types of Bridges

There are two main types of bridges — conventional and resin-bonded:

Conventional Bridge — has one or more replacement teeth attached to crowns. The crowns are cemented over the natural teeth on either side of the space to be filled.

Resin-Bonded Bridge — has one or more replacement teeth attached to the back of nearby natural teeth using a metal or plastic strip and cement.

What Are Crowns and Bridges Made From?

Dental crowns and bridges are made from porcelain, high noble metals (gold), or a combination of both. Dr. Barkhodari will determine the right type of crown for your unique needs.

There are several alternatives to replace missing teeth depending on your specific needs, including partial dentures and dental implants. Dr. Barkhodari will capture a detailed look inside your mouth using the iTero Element 5D Scanner and design your new restoration according to your needs and talk you through the treatment options to ensure you’re happy with the process we use to give you back your strong and healthy smile.
