Mouth Guards.

Preventing damage to your teeth is an extremely important part of your dental care. Grinding your teeth or getting hit in the mouth during contact sports can be extremely problematic for your overall oral health. Mouth guards play an extremely important part in preventing damage to your teeth, lips, tongue, and the soft tissues of your mouth, including avoiding chipped or broken teeth, nerve damage, and tooth loss.

Types of Mouth Guards

There are several types of mouth guards available, including ready-made, mouth-formed (boil and bite), and fully custom mouth guards. At NB Smile Design, we recommend and encourage the use of custom mouth guards as they are the most effective in reducing the risk of dental injuries.

Mouth guards are usually worn on the upper jaw however if you have dental devices such as veneers, retainers, bridgework, or dentures, Dr. Barkhodari can create custom a mouthguard for your lower jaw instead and have it fitted at the dental office in the heart of San Francisco. Night guards can also be used to help alleviate issues relating to sleep apnea, TMD / TMJ issues, and snoring. If you think you grind your teeth at night or play a lot of contact sports, let Dr. Barkhodari know so you can discuss your mouthguard needs.
