Tooth Bonding
& Veneers.

Cosmetic dentistry is a method to correct imperfections in the appearance of the mouth. The color of your teeth, as well as their alignment and spacing, are all characteristics that affect the overall appearance of your smile.

NB Smile Design offers a wide variety of cosmetic treatments that can improve any of these issues., including tooth bonding and veneers.

What is Tooth Bonding?

Tooth bonding is one of these treatment options that involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is done to repair the damage decay has done to your tooth, change the alignment of the tooth, close gaps between the teeth, or for cosmetic purposes.

During tooth bonding, the surface of the tooth is roughened in order to accept the bonding and hold it. A gel is applied to micro etch the tooth surface, and a primer/bond agent is applied so the material adheres to the surface. Then the material itself is placed on the tooth and hardened with intense light. The last step includes a composite resin material that is shaped and polished to get a perfect finish.

How Do Veneers Work?

Veneers are another cosmetic dentistry technique Dr. Barkhodari uses at her Union Street dental practice in San Francisco. This is a procedure in which a special covering is placed over the visible area of the tooth. At your first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, and the permanent veneers replace the temporaries and are bonded to the teeth. The veneers are usually made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and provide a very pleasing and uniform appearance. The advantage of veneers versus crowns is that much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is generally less uncomfortable. Veneers are recommended for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
